As the Art Director of BW Chicago, from the publishers of BusinessWeek, I received three American Graphic Design Awards, and a Create Award. Prior to becoming independent, I held staff positions at national consumer magazines with circulations in the multi-millions, including Parents and McCall’s.
As an educator, I'm currently an adjunct instructor for NYU, and was formerly an adjunct lecturer at The City College of New York. I also contribute to Mediabistro On Demand, where I have several online tutorials published, including Common Type Mistakes... & How to Avoid Them, Color Basics for Print Designers, and 10 InDesign Favorites. I've also been a guest critic and speaker at Cooper Union, and SUNY Fredonia.
I've consulted with clients, which include FP Design, The Archdiocese of New York, and The Uniformed Firefighters Association of Greater New York, to help them learn and maximize the potential of their software, and to explore graphic design principals.
I earned a BFA, with Honors, in Communications Design, from Pratt Institute, where I completed one of the first classes that explored graphic design produced with a Macintosh. I'm a member of The Society of Publication Designers, and am active with the Society's Student Outreach Committee. A lifetime resident of New York State, I've lived in Brooklyn since the late 1980s.
